Gold Standard Assessments
Consistent with NICE-Guidelines
Difficulties with attention, being forgetful, and getting fidgety and hyperactive are all common experiences for children and young people. However, these difficulties can also lead to significant challenges, and can interfere with their ability to progress at school or to regulate their emotions.
When there is such an impact, an assessment for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) may be appropriate. Our ADHD assessments are detailed, comprehensive and consistent with NICE-guidelines. Our diagnoses are very widely accepted by NHS teams, schools and local authorities. Our diagnostic assessments aim to provide the best understanding of what is going on for your child.
ADHD can be categorised into different criteria: Inattentive (which was previously known as ADD), Hyperactive and Impulsive, or Combined. Understanding exactly which criteria your child meets is important to ensure the most appropriate support can be recommended.

We ask parents, teachers and children to complete some questionnaires, which ask about your circumstances. They help us to screen for ADHD, autism, and emotional and psychological wellbeing challenges.
These questionnaires have been put together to ensure that an ADHD assessment is the most appropriate course of action for your child.
Comprehensive meetings will take place for you and your child. We will always include a face-to-face meeting with your child.
We use multiple assessment tools, including the ACE clinical interview, the gold-standard structured interview to assess for the core signs and traits of ADHD, the Qb Check, a computerised assessment to assess for inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity, and the Conners Questionnaire, a thorough assessment of symptoms and impairments associated with ADHD and common
co-occurring problems.
We will also review any previous correspondence you may have from school or healthcare services.
Behind the scenes, we will develop a “formulation”. This is a working understanding of what is going on for your child. A formulation involves discussion with a child and adolescent psychiatrist, who will review and comment on the assessment and outcome. We will also collaborate with school to make sure we have fully understood their perspective.
Within a week or two, we will have a feedback appointment. We will review everything we did, and share the outcomes and recommendations. At the end of this process, all the information will be detailed in a report, which will clearly explain the diagnosis and how we arrived at that diagnosis.
We include recommendations most appropriate for your child. We also offer the opportunity for you to request amendments to the report.Whatever the outcome of the assessment, our reports can be shared with schools, local authorities or NHS teams to help ensure that the right support can be put in place.
You may also want to consider further therapeutic support or use our ADHD Medication Service, so medication options for your child’s ADHD can be considered.
