Gold Standard Assessments

Consistent with NICE-Guidelines

  • Autism is unique in every child and young person. Autism is most often associated with differences in making and keeping friends, differences in understanding and expressing emotions, managing conversations, and taking comfort in routines.

  • Children and young people with autism may also have a keen attention to detail, demonstrate talents, have specific and perhaps intense interests, and hold wonderful character traits, such as honesty and loyalty. Autism is also associated with repetitive or specific patterns of behaviour.

These differences have an adverse impact on a young person’s ability to manage day-to-day tasks and are present in different contexts (e.g., at home and at school).

Our autism assessments are thorough, consistent with NICE-guidelines, and our diagnoses are very widely accepted by NHS teams, schools and local authorities. Our diagnostic assessments aim to provide the best understanding of what is going on for your child.

    • Young people aged 6– to 18-years-old, showing traits associated with ADHD.

    • Individuals WITHOUT a diagnosed moderate to severe learning disability (this is characterised by functioning no more than 3 years behind chronological age)

    • Individuals with fluent and coherent speech.

  • Within a week or two, we will have a feedback appointment. This is for you, with at least one of the clinicians who completed the assessment. We will review everything we did, and share the outcomes and recommendations.

  • At the end of this process, all the information will be detailed in a report. The report will clearly detail the diagnosis and how we arrived at that diagnosis. We include recommendations most appropriate for your child. We also offer the opportunity for you to request amendments to the report.

  • If your child receives a diagnosis of autism, we can offer a place on our support group for parents. Our “What Next?” group explores the next steps through a four-week course, providing an opportunity to meet other parents and carers, to explore various topics to help increase your understanding of your child’s autism, develop your appreciation of the positives of neurodivergence, and develop strategies to respond to difficulties.

Whatever the outcome of the assessment, our reports can be shared with schools, local authorities or NHS teams to help ensure that the right support can be put into place.
