About the event

This live online session, hosted by Dr Murewa Akintola and former teacher Ruby Cole, introduces a psychological, evidence-based approach to supporting staff in managing the most complex aspects of their work. Dr Akintola supports NHS clinicians in highly emotionally demanding roles and has designed this programme to share these skills and approaches with teachers and educators, recognising the complexity of supporting children and young people in schools today.

During this session, we will focus on the emotional and psychological load of working in schools, particularly when supporting children with complex needs, managing challenging behaviour and holding risk, responsibility and relational pressure. We will then draw on techniques and approaches, to support you and your team in managing the demands of your work, allowing you to remain connected and regulated in your role, during the most difficult of moments. Staff are invited to submit questions and comments beforehand so that the session can address the pressures most relevant to their roles.

  • To understand the emotional and psychological demands of teaching through a clinical lens

  • Why the current educational environment can take an emotional toll
