Dr. Harriet Bowyer

Specialist Clinical Psychologist

Harriet is an HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist, with experience working with clients of all ages. She is experienced in working with children and young people who struggle to regulate their emotions and/or present with a range of emotional and behavioural difficulties. She is also experienced in assessing and working with children and young people with neurodevelopmental conditions such as ASD, ADHD and learning disabilities. Harriet is trained in several different therapeutic approaches and mainly draws upon Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy CFT). She has a Master’s qualification in Health Psychology, providing her with additional skills in assessing and supporting health behaviour change and the emotional impact of illness.

Harriet aims to work collaboratively with individuals and families in order to develop a shared understanding of the difficulties that have arisen, and provide a tailored psychological intervention to reduce distress and improve wellbeing. As such, she draws on a range of psychological models in order to meet the specific needs of each individual or family that she supports. Harriet is also experienced in delivering teaching, training and consultation to external agencies. Prior to working in private practice, Harriet worked within NHS CAMHS for 7 years, and now works as a Lecturer in Applied Psychology at Glasgow Caledonian University where she supports the development of individuals training to work as Practitioner Psychologists.
