that the contents of your child’s EHCP are accurate, specific and relevant, and / or to help identify the most suitable settings and approach for your child’s education and wellbeing. Our skillset is in providing the evidence you need.
We do not offer a service that can help you complete any EHCP paperwork.
Your first meeting will likely be a developmental
history. This is a chance to discuss all of your child’s developmental history, in which we will think about your child’s family and their experience of growing up. We will talk about school and how they have progressed from early years education through to the present day. We will discuss their social life, behavioural concerns, and emotional wellbeing, and we will have an opportunity to hear your views about their day-to-day life.
Each appointment is typically an hour, and you may need several of these meetings. We do try to reduce the number of times you have to keep returning. This meeting is often completed without your child, but they are always welcome.
You will be asked to complete some questionnaires
about your child’s real-life skills. This may take
approximately 45 minutes to an hour and a half,
depending on your child’s age. The link to the
questionnaires will arrive via email, so please do
keep an eye on your inbox, as well as your junk mail folder. You can complete these questionnaires on a computer, tablet, or a phone, but do set aside some time to complete these accurately.
If your child is 7-years-old or over, they may also be asked to complete some questionnaires. These will be about their mood, worries and feelings. The link to this questionnaire will arrive via email to you, not your child. These questionnaires can be completed on a computer, tablet, or a phone, and may take between 5 to 25 minutes. Please do ask them to complete the questionnaires. You can provide any necessary assistance, but try to encourage your child to provide an answer.
We ask parents, teachers and children to complete some questionnaires, which ask about your circumstances. They help us to screen for ADHD, autism, and emotional and psychological wellbeing challenges.
These questionnaires have been put together to ensure that an ADHD assessment is the most appropriate course of action for your child.
Your psychologist will obtain some further
information, if necessary, including additional
conversations with school and reviewing any
previous correspondence you may have about
your child. We are aware that there may be a lot of paperwork; it will all be reviewed. Your psychologist will consider all the information provided to help come to a working understanding of what is happening for your child. They may also require consultation and supervision from our wider team.
Remember, we take your privacy very seriously, so any information about your child and your family remains confidential, unless you want us to share,or if anyone may be in danger.
We will spend some time with you and your child. This can take place at our clinic, or nursery / school, but it is most likely to take place at your home. As we’re considering the best ways to structure their education, you’ll likely need a comprehensive review of their developmental, educational and intellectual needs.
We will be completing some tasks, appropriate for
your child’s age and ability. These may include the
WISC-V (Weschler Intelligence Scale for Children –Fifth Version) and the WIAT-III (Weschler Individual Achievement Test – Third Edition). There may also be some others, and they will be used to fully understand your child’s strengths and weaknesses.
You will be able to meet with the psychologist who
completed the assessment, typically within two
weeks of the assessment. Your child is welcome to
join, but you may want to discuss this with your psyxhologist. You will receive confirmation for this
appointment via email and text, and it can take place online or face-to-face.
A written, thorough report will be provided,
providing substantial detail of the results of
the assessment and a clear understanding of
what is going on for your child, along with
recommendations most appropriate for your
child. This report will be sent to you via email,
but it will be in a ‘draft’ format, as you have the
opportunity to request any amendments to
the report.
We will make the appropriate amendments and send you the comprehensive final report via email.
We are proud to defend our assessments,
and we will strongly advocate for your child.
We can act as witness at any meetings you
may have, including EHCP Mediation meetings or SEND Tribunals. This is an additional service to the assessment, and all work involved is charged at
your psychologist’s hourly rate.
Throughout the process, your psychologist will be available to answer any questions or concerns that you may have.
