Emma (she/her/hers) has worked as a psychologist in mental health services since 2009. She studied undergraduate and masters psychology at the University of Dundee, before moving to Newcastle to compete her doctorate in clinical psychology. Since qualifying as a clinical psychologist in 2013, she has gained a wealth of experience working within services for people with complex needs including learning disabilities, physical disabilities, autism spectrum disorder and enduring mental health difficulties. Emma has experience delivering a broad range of therapy interventions with individuals and families, drawing on training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Systemic Therapy, Mindfulness based interventions and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Emma regularly works with individuals who experience low mood, anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma symptoms and difficulties with emotional regulation. Emma utilises creative approaches to help engage clients in therapy sessions, based on their individual strengths and interests. As a clinical psychologist working in learning disability and autism services, Emma has gained considerable expertise providing psychological consultation and indirect support, including specialist training and workshops for families, carers, schools and colleges. Emma is passionate about helping individuals and those around them to understand their difficulties in the context of their unique life experiences. Emma has a particular interest in working with neurodiverse individuals and their families. She is trained in cognitive assessments and gold standard autism diagnostic tools; she has extensive experience providing autism friendly psychological support. Originally from Scotland, Emma has become an honorary Northumbrian, living in rural Northumberland with her family. When not at work, she can usually be found outdoors, particularly anywhere with castles or sandy beaches (and luckily there is no shortage of these in the North East). Emma also loves being in the garden and has recently started to experiment with growing her own vegetables.
