Dr. Murewa Akintola
Clinical Psychologist
Murewa has worked in NHS services for 17 years, beginning as a Primary Care Mental Health Graduate Worker in the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) scheme. She went on to begin her postgraduate training at the University of Birmingham in 2005 where she developed a passion for working collaboratively with children, young people and their families to alleviate distress related to emotional, relational, behavioural and physical health difficulties using psychological evidence-based ideas.
Murewa qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 2008, after which she worked in a Family Therapy service in Birmingham, undertaking therapeutic work with individuals, couples and families. Murewa was then employed by the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital, specialising in working with children, young people and their families who are experiencing emotional distress and physical health conditions. Alongside this, Murewa also provides teaching and training, and supervision to a variety of professionals.
Murewa draws upon Compassion Focussed Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, having done further training in these approaches. Murewa individualises the therapy to the needs of her clients, but kindness, playfulness and authenticity are hallmarks of her therapeutic style.
Murewa is available for remote appointments via Zoom video conferencing.
