Dr. Rachael Ryan
Senior Clinical Psychologist
Rachael (she/her) is a Senior Clinical Psychologist working in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). For the past 13 years, Rachael has worked in social care and mental health services with families from pregnancy, childhood and through to adolescence and adulthood. Rachael has provided assessment, formulation and therapy to children, young people and adults experiencing a variety of mental health difficulties.
Rachael draws upon her specialist knowledge and skills to provide comprehensive neurodevelopmental assessments of Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). She is trained in the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule Version 2 (ADOS-2), the gold standard in regard to conducting autism assessments, and contributes to Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) processes. Rachael frequently conducts cognitive assessments as part of her role to develop an understanding of a child's cognitive strengths and weaknesses.
Rachael obtained her BSc degree in Human Psychology from Aston University. Her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology was completed at the University of Manchester. Whilst Rachael's pre-doctoral research explored how to make information accessible to parents in the context of a parenting intervention, Rachael's doctoral research investigated therapeutic relationships within CAMHS. Relationships within CAMHS are inherently complex, with multiple relationships taking place between young people, parents or carers and staff members of various disciplines. Rachael's doctoral thesis specifically explored and discussed the factors which both build and hinder therapeutic relationships, which Rachael uses to build strong therapeutic relationships with the different families she works with.
Rachael is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist (PYL38655).
