Leah McGillivray

Clinical Psychologist

Leah is a HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist with broad experience supporting children, young people (CYP) and families across a range of NHS services. Her experience includes Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), Paediatric Health Psychology, specialist CAMHS work within a Children in Care team, CAMHS Learning Disability services, neurodevelopmental services, and psychology work in partnership with education professionals. She has worked with children and young people from early childhood through to early adulthood, as well as directly with parents and carers. Leah currently works within a specialist neurodevelopmental service, completing autism assessments with children, young people and adults as part of a multidisciplinary team. In this role, she works closely with individuals and families to understand each person’s strengths, needs and experiences, and to provide compassionate, individualised feedback and recommendations. Leah has a particular interest in neurodiversity and works in a neuroaffirmative way, recognising and respecting different ways of thinking, communicating and experiencing the world. She is passionate about helping children, young people and families understand neurodivergence in a compassionate and strengths-based way, and has experience adapting psychological therapy to meet the needs of autistic children and young people. Leah takes a warm, collaborative and thoughtful approach to therapy. She places importance on building a trusting relationship and creating a space where CYP and families feel comfortable, understood and genuinely listened to. She works in a compassionate and non-judgemental way, helping young people explore difficulties at a pace that feels manageable while also recognising their strengths and what is already working well. Leah adapts therapy to the individual young person or family and works flexibly and creatively, using approaches that feel meaningful and helpful to them. Her work is integrative and draws primarily on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), alongside Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT/DNA-V), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), systemic, attachment-informed and trauma-informed approaches. Outside of work, Leah enjoys coastal walks and cuddles with her dog. Leah has undertaken specialist training in autism assessment, including ADOS-2, ADI-R and 3Di. She is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Practitioner Psychologist (PYL046837) and is accredited with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) as a CBT therapist. Leah is able to offer online psychological therapy.
